One of the great things about summer is that we can expand our living space without extending the house or make a costly renovation. In many cases, we may not even have to decorate. We simply have to clean the porch or deck and put a good and comfortable chair.
Others may want to make a room outside on the terrace or garden that can be done for a minimum cost. A comfortable outdoor furniture enhances any room outside. But, this needs not be expensive. Many products are available in a wide range of prices and styles.
Plastic furniture are very cheap, and lasts a few years. They are easy to assemble and clean. You can always make them look a bit more elegant by adding cushions. You can also make a modest investment and buy pieces of cast aluminum or wrought iron for longer life. Any of them will have to be kept inside during the winter, but are made to stand outside in the summer months.

Other types of furniture that are more robust are those made of teak, redwood or eucalyptus, which provides more years of service if properly maintained. You may need to give them a coat of varnish every summer, but otherwise, do not require too much maintenance.
The wicker furniture is also very well outdoors. It gives a classic touch to your terrace, but does not get along with the elements. These type of furniture must be protected from rain. Wicker cushions also deteriorates with the sun’s heat and humidity if they are not taken proper care. Of course, this is not a problem if your outdoor area is covered.
A table top in glass or porcelain will stand up well all season. Cover it with an umbrella for protection from sun. Some new umbrella models have LED lights that are solar powered. These lights provide a fantastic light up to 8 hours after dark and are easy to maintain.
Finally, to enhance an outdoor space, flowers and plants are a necessity. You can place the classic terracotta pots to create a border around the space. Currently, new materials are being used to make pots lighter and easier to move. Floating candles in glass containers are also a lovely decoration as night falls. Choose the ones that contain citronella, as they are a natural repellent for mosquitoes.
